A Rose of Such Virtue - Choral Concert | Concentus Women’s Chorus

A Rose of Such Virtue

Friday, January 18, 2008, 7:30 PM, Bethany Presbyterian Church
Sunday, January 20, 2008, 3:00 PM, The Chapel at Third Presbyterian Church

Our winter musical offering is centered around settings of Marian and seasonal texts spanning five centuries, featuring harpist Barbara Dechario and pianist Anne Marie Scotto.

This concert includes excerpts from one of the best known compositions for voices and harp: Benjamin Britten's “A Ceremony of Carols,” and the rhythmically complex, Cuban influenced “Concierto de Navidad” by Paul Csonka.

The early 20th century is represented by Gabriel Fauré, Patrick Hadley and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Our mission of performing work by women composers is fulfilled by the excellent writing of Eleanor Daley, Paula Foley Tillen, Lana Walter and a stunning setting of “In the Bleak Midwinter” by Frances McCollin, a prolific, yet little know composer born in 1892.

Rochester based composer, conductor and supporter of Concentus, Cary Ratcliff, finds a place on our program with his charming “Were We Dreaming” scored for harp and treble voices.
