Participation Principles and Policies
All singers will collaborate annually with the director to create a personal vocal and musical objective plan.
Any singer who has been on leave from Concentus for more than one concert will be required to reaudition before rejoining the chorus.
All singers are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances on time.
As we continue to refine our ensemble it is critical that we sing with a full group as much as possible. Learning the music is only part of the effort; we plan to devote rehearsals mostly to ensemble work — balance, interpretation and blend — elements that require everyone’s presence.
If you know in advance that you will have to miss a rehearsal, please let our rehearsal manager, Michelle Newkirk, know in advance. For unplanned absences, contact her to let her know. If your voice is impaired by illness but you still feel well enough, please attend rehearsal and “sit in” so that you can learn breath and dynamic markings and divisi assignments.
Any singer who misses more than three regular rehearsals may be tested by the conductor to check her knowledge of the music and may not, at the conductor’s discretion, be allowed to perform.
E-mail is our official method of communication and information-sharing. Singers must obtain an e-mail account and read it regularly. Any singer unable to use an e-mail account must make alternative reasonable arrangements with the Board Secretary, including providing a season’s worth of SASEs, proactive telephone check-ins, and a designated e-mail proxy.
Concert dress: Concentus singers wear “concert black:”
- A long (ankle-length) dress or skirt-and-blouse combination
- Long or three-quarter sleeves
- Black stockings
- Black closed-toe shoes
- Black folder
No perfume or scented hair spray, please. Subtle jewelry is okay.
